What now for the future of premium wordpress themes?

In late 2009, Mike Alex Wasylik wrote two excellent and thought provoking blog posts about whether or not the GPL license is applicable to premium wordpress themes. Mike was quite clear and very articulate in his views in favour of the right of premium wordpress theme developers to reserve the right to charge for their works and copyright same.

Great new dark free wordpress theme from Smashing Magazine

Smashing magazine appear to be on serious role at the moment with another excellent free dark wordpress theme called DesignPile.
I gotta say the attention to detail in the artwork of this theme is outstanding. It’s very difficult to pull off a really good looking dark design and Site5 nailed it and then some for Smashing Magazine with this one.

Easily add post thumbnails using native wordpress functionality in your theme

We’ve been busy sprucing up our new wordpress theme for the relaunch of themesforge.com and finally got around to adding thumbnails functionality to our postss. Now I know there are many many different ways to do this, from dedicated plugins to using custom fields.
Well since WordPress 2.9 this is now an optional feature within wordpress itself which is great news for anyone looking to add this to their wordpress powered website. Hopefully it will mean that in the near future all wordpress themes will support this functionality. We will certainly be pushing for it’s adoption on all wordpress themes we see – and we’ll be keeping an eye out for it!

The guys over at Smashing Magazine just released a fantastic new free wordpress theme called SimpleFolio.

ok so we’re finally nearly finished with our redesign!
after a good few months preparation work we are moving into beta testing of our shiny new wordpress theme. (Feb 2010 – you’re now looking at it!)
